Craniofacial orthodontics assists patients with birth defects such as cleft lip and palate. Our Orthodontist, Dr. Sharon Durrett works with an experienced team of doctors to help treat cleft lip, palate, and other facial abnormalities. They will follow the development and growth of the teeth and jaws through the use of x-rays and models. Our Orthodontist, Dr. Sharon Durrett will also assist in treatments before and after surgery from the oral surgeon.
A cleft lip and palate is when the upper lip and mouth are split during fetal development early in their life. It is caused by a lack of tissue joining the mouth and lip. Surgical treatment is required to resolve cleft lip and palate. Typically, surgery will occur within the first twelve months of life. This is where a team of specialists and doctors come into play.
