The most common question we get here at Durrett Orthodontics is:
Between Invisalign and braces which will move my teeth faster?
The answer? In most cases, neither will you have you finishing treatment faster than the other.
Let’s discuss the differences between Invisalign and braces.
Invisalign is a series of clear trays called aligners. They are custom made to fit and move your teeth. John Doe can’t wear Jane Doe’s aligners because they just won’t fit. Braces are made for anyone and everyone there is no specific scan or mold that needs to be made to place the braces on. Braces are made up of brackets, wires and color ties to keep the wire in place.
With the aligners you can remove the trays to eat, brush your teeth, and drink; with braces you cannot. Because you can remove the aligners we recommend the trays not be out for more than two hours a day. With braces you do have to be aware of what you eat and making sure you are cleaning in between the brackets with the provided tools. Avoid hard, crunchy, and sticky foods while in braces, Dr. Sharon Durrett also recommends cutting foods into smaller pieces.
Now although Invisalign and Braces are different they share some similarities. For instance, with Invisalign Dr. Sharon Durrett places small bumps of tooth colored bonding material, called attachments, to your teeth this helps move the teeth just like the brackets do in our braces patients. And just like the brackets, if an attachment were to come off a tooth, that tooth will not move, or depending on where you are in treatment, that tooth can shift back into malalignment.
Now just because Invisalign and Braces do look different from each other they still get the job done, Dr. Sharon Durrett is here to help you decide which one is a better fit for you! Make sure to call our Westchase, Tampa, FL office for your complimentary consultation!
