What is the best age to first visit an orthodontist?

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children visit the orthodontist at the age of seven. This allows the orthodontist to provide early treatment if necessary. However, you’re never too old for your first orthodontic visit. We welcome patients of all ages.

What are braces and when are they needed?

Braces are dental appliances that can straighten teeth, correct bite issues, and improve your overall oral health. We offer a variety of braces options including clear aligners, and clear or metal braces.

How long do I have to wear my braces?

Most orthodontic issues can typically be corrected in 6-30 months. However, your smile is unique and the length of your treatment will be unique, too. That means that your smile could be completed in more time or less time than the average. For the fastest and most predictable results, you’ll need to do your best to follow Dr. Durrett’s professional recommendations.

Will my braces hurt my mouth?

It’s normal to feel some pressure or soreness as your teeth move. We’ll provide you with soft wax to protect your gums and tissue from any pointy edges and we’ll give you tips on how to manage any occasional discomfort that you may experience.

Will wearing braces or appliances interfere with any activities I participate in?

Absolutely not! If you play contact sports, then we recommend investing in a mouthguard to protect your smile. Upon request, we are happy to provide you with a mouthguard. If you play a musical instrument, allow yourself a small period of time to adjust to the feeling of braces or aligners in your mouth.
